Social Media and Promotions Manager

Volunteer Opportunities

Who we are

Inclusive Future Magazine is an anthology of speculative prose, poetry, and art in the guise of a pop culture magazine created for all people, from the future. We believe that an essential step toward creating the future we want to live in is to help people envision what a more just, equitable, and sustainable future could look like. We ask writers and artists with traditionally marginalized identities to imagine inclusive futures, and we publish their work in hopes that it will inspire readers' imaginings.

The IFM team currently consists of three white, queer, neurodivergent, non-binary individuals with invisible disabilities who volunteer our time and energies for this project. We work collaboratively, taking on tasks according to our strengths and capacities and making decisions based on consensus. We respect each other's knowledge, strengths, and capacities, and we speak up about our perspectives and concerns. Each of our voices have equal weight, nothing is done unless everyone is comfortable with it, and we share equal responsibility for the outcomes.

Position Description

Despite its important role in connecting us with creators and readers, social media and promotions work for this project has fallen by the wayside due to our limited capacity as a very small team. We need a Social Media and Promotions Manager to help us reach people who will read the zine and financially support it, and we also want to reach writers, artists, and guest editors who will bring future issues into being.

To this end, and in collaboration with the rest of the team, the Social Media and Promotions Manager (SMPM) will develop and execute social media and promotions campaigns. Our current resources include Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Ko-fi, and Kickstarter accounts, as well as a mailing list and a blog on our website. Ultimately, it will be up to the SMPM, as the resident expert, to decide how best to do this work with the resources available to us, but this position might look like:

  • drafting and posting content,

  • engaging with followers and community,

  • assessing the effectiveness of campaigns and proposing/making adjustments as needed,

  • and identifying new opportunities/platforms for promoting the zine and developing relationships with potential collaborators.

Because collaboration, mutual respect, and shared responsibility are core principles for us, we will also want to establish a regular mode of collaboration - our current method is monthly video meetings in Discord, but we are open to changing this to accommodate new team members' needs and preferences - and we will want the SMPM to cross-train at least one other team member so we can share the load when needed.

Timeline

Ideally, we'd love to have someone start working with us in April or early May 2024 to help us with promotions leading up to, and during our June 2024 Kickstarter.

Interested?

If working collaboratively appeals to you and you have the skills, knowledge, and capacity to help us promote our project, we'd love to hear from you! Please email us at inclusivefuture[at]gmail[dot]com or fill out our contact form (below), and include the phrase SOCIAL MEDIA & PROMOTIONS in the subject line.

We would be especially excited to bring on a new team member who has one or more marginalized identities that we do not have, as we are actively seeking to bring more diversity of experience and perspective into this project.

If you are interested in taking on the Social Media and Promotions Manager role as an internship, we'd love to support that. Please also include in your email a brief list of your school's internship requirements so we can assess whether we have the capacity for it.
